Weyerbacher - Merry Monks Growler Labels

An interesting look at a label type we rarely see these days.  Today we have a growler label from Weyerbacher for their Merry Monks Tripel.  This is a half gallon size label, but stay tuned for details on this one.  It’s unusual to see a specific beer labeled onto a container typically used for multiple different beers.

Weyerbacher - Insanity New Labels

Here is perhaps one of my absolute favorite new logo labels coming from Weyerbacher.  Today we have Insanity ale aged in oak barrels.  Insanity is Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot Barleywine aged in oak barrels and it’s one of my favorites.  Look for Insanity in 12oz bottles and yes it’s big at 11.1% ABV.

Weyerbacher Brewers’ Select Yankee (11/23): 2nd To Last Release Is An Old Ale

I’ve been asking our pal Chris Wilson for over a year now what will happen when Weyerbacher Brewer’s Select series hits “Z” or ZULU, and now I may have my answer.  Details on Yankee bill it as the 2nd to last release in the Brewers’ Select series.  This from Weyerbacher:

The 25th installment – that’d be 2nd to LAST – in the Brewers’ Select Series is Yankee! No, this is not about baseball! For those of you just tuning in, the Brewer’s Select Series follows the NATO alphabet: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc. Yankee is the letter “Y”.

Yankee is an “Old Ale” and as such is expected to cellar quite nicely. Described by some as a ‘baby barleywine’, this beer is an Old Ale, 8.4% ABV with 51 IBU. Yankee is a full-bodied, mahogany ale with an intense malt aroma and flavor. You’ll find caramel, bread and fruit, with a touch of spice and smoke with a warm vinous finish. English East Kent Golding hops balance out this malty treasure!

Happy Holidays!

As with all Brewers’ Select releases, Yankee was bottled in a very small run and will not be made again. Look for Yankee on draft at select finer restaurants and pubs and in bottles exclusively at the Weyerbacher Visitors Center!

Note: Yankee will debut on Black Friday at the Visitors Center. Note: the Visitors Center will be open at NOON on Black Friday (November 23rd) and close at the regular 7:00pm. See you there!

Weyerbacher Riserva 2012

Here’s your very first look at the label redesign for Weyerbacher Riserva 2012.  This ale with Raspberry Puree added & aged in oak barrels will be packaged in 750ml bottles and this is the first Riserva to adopt the new Weyerbacher logo.  Look for a 2013 release.

Weyerbacher - Brewer’s Select Yankee

Here’s the next release in the Weyerbacher Brewer’s Select series…Yankee.  This will be packaged in a 12oz bottle, and no details on style or ABV so far.  As you know the Brewer’s Select series follows the phonetic alphabet so I guess we’ll have to ask our pal Chris Wilson what happens after they release Zulu?

Weyerbacher Expansion - 2-Months From Occupancy

It’s been a while sine the last photos, but Weyerbacher is offering up a peek inside the new addition.  This from Weyerbacher:

Here's a shot of the new Weyerbacher Brewing Company production area / cellar! Were inside two months to occupancy... and as you can see, we're already broken through the walls. It feels so BIG around here now!

Weyerbacher Brewer’s Select “X-Ray” Robust Porter Coming 10/19

We brought you the first peek at the new label for Weyerbacher Brewer’s Select X-Ray Robust Porter (yes this is the first to carry the new logo)….now today comes word from Weyerbacher on the upcoming release (10/19)---ONLY 60-cases so DO NOT delay!   This from Bill @ Weyerbacher:

X-Ray is the twenty-fourth installment in Weyerbacher’s Brewers’ Select Series and the FIRST to wear the new logo. Yes, that blob on all our other Brewers’Select labels was supposed to give you the impression of a wax seal. I suspect that this one leaves less to the imagination!

X-Ray is a “Robust Porter” weighing-in at 6.7% ABV. Chocolate and coffee notes run through this aggressively-bittered, pitch black robust porter. X-RAY is kettle-hopped with Fuggles and EK Goldings and dry hopped with more EK Goldings giving it an earthy and fruity English character to go with its American sensibilities.

As with all of our Brewers’ Select beers, X-Ray is a one-batch limited production and will not make an encore! Be sure to grab it when you see it on draft in fine bars and restaurants throughout our distribution area. X-Ray will be available in 12oz bottles exclusively in our Visitors Center starting Friday, 10/19.

A Peek Inside Weyerbacher's New Cellar (Video)

Looks like things are really coming along with the Weyerbacher expansion.  Here’s a peek inside the “New Cellar.”  This from Weyerbacher:

This is your first video look at the new addition. It's still not complete however you can see from the pictures that we've come a long way! We're almost enclosed, under roof and we have floors! Electric and HVAC are being installed now and the roll doors are coming in next! Enjoy

Weyerbacher Expansion Should Be Operational By Year’s End & No Plans for Distribution Expansion

We’ve been following along as Weyerbacher & our pal Chris Wilson have worked to expand their facility in Easton.  Now comes word from LVB that the brewery expansion should be complete in late Sept with brewing to being by late Dec 2012.  Also Dan Weirback mentioned that this expansion is intended to better supply their existing 15-state market and NOT to expand their distribution:

Work is progressing on a 7,500-square-foot addition to the Weyerbacher Brewery on Line Street in Easton.  Dan Weirback, president and founder of the brewery, said three of the four walls have been erected and work on the roof has begun in preparation for pouring the concrete floor.

The project began at the end of February and he expects work to be done by the end of September, which is slightly behind schedule. Actual brewing should begin by late December or early January.

“After the building's done we'll still have two to three months of outfitting work to do before we actually start using it,” he said.

Weirback said setting up equipment and hooking up the electricity to the system is among the work that won't start until after the addition is finished.

The expansion will increase the brewery's space by about 50 percent, according to Weirback. But that additional space will more than triple the output capacity with room for additional fermentation, bottling and kegging.

Currently, the brewery distributes to 15 states and makes just over 9,700 barrels of beer per year. With the added capacity Weirback said they should be able to output more than 30,000 barrels of beer annually.

But he said that doesn't mean the brewery's business footprint will be expanding.

“We're going to stick to the 15 states that we're in,” he said.

Weirback noted that the added capacity is actually aimed at better meeting the demand for

Weyerbacher beer in the existing territory – demand that he said is going up.

Weyerbacher – Old Heathen Imperial Stout

Here’s the new packaging for Weyerbacher Old heathen Imperials Stout.  We’ve brought you all of the new packaging designs from Weyerbacher so far and this one appears to be decidedly mild, almost biblically inspired as compared to the others.  No scarecrow no jester but it still looks great.

Weyerbacher - Winter Ale New Packaging & Logo

Here’s your first look at the updated packaging for our pal Chris Wilson’s Weyerbacher Winter Ale.  This new 12oz bottle package has a jester neck label (below) and the new label includes not only the scarecrow (harvest ale)  but also what looks like one of the merry monks…and of course the jester who’s packing a snowball!  Thankfully the snowman is drinking a beer.

Weyerbacher Expansion Update–We Have Roof!

Just wanted to pass on a photographic update of the latest progress for Weyerbacher’s expansion project.  As you can see the roof is on and the floors are close to being poured….and there is plenty of space for fermentation tanks and the bottling lines as well.

Weyerbacher Will Brew 70 Batches of Imperial Pumpkin Ale

We brought you news that Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale sold rapidly….200 cases & 50 kegs in 30-mins.  Now comes word from our pal Chris Wilson @ Weyerbacher that they are brewing batch # 38 today and they’ll be brewing 70 batches….right into September.  I suspect there will be no shortage this year.

16 July 2012

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale–2000 Cases & 50 Kegs Sold in 30-Mins!

This is perhaps a record for Weyerbacher, and definitely a record for selling Pumpkin beer in July.  Hunterdon Brewing sold 200 cases and 50 kegs of Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale 2012 in 30 Minutes!

Weyerbacher–Unfiltered Double Simcoe IPA & 750ml Merry Monks

The Original Double Simcoe label from Weyerbacher is here, and now we have the unfiltered version.  This one is a 750ml cork&cage bottle and it remains at 9% ABV.
As a bonus, here’s the 750ml bottle for Merry Monks.  The 12oz bottle is here and the 9.3% ABV remains the same.

28 June 2012

Weyerbacher - Autumnfest NEW Label

Here’s the updated label for Weyerbacher Autumnfest as part of their packaging overhaul.  This is the 12oz bottle label and it remains at 5.4% ABV.  No hidden Jester in this one but the blackbird certainly looks familiar.

Weyerbacher last Chance IPA Hitting The Shelves Soon

Thanks to WeyerbacherNat for the photo showing Weyerbacher’s new Last Chance IPA cases…about to hit the shelves.  This is the replacement brew for Hops Infusion and the original label release is here.

Weyerbacher Brewers Select “Whiskey (Barrel Aged)”

The original label is here…but now some details on the beer and the naming of the beer for Weyerbacher’s next installment in the Brewers Select Series…”Whiskey (Barrel Aged)”:

Whiskey Barrel Aged” is a big, dark, malty Brown Ale aged in whiskey barrels. It comes in at 9.0% ABV and 27 IBU. We used a blend of six different malts to give this one notes of sweet dried fruits. The beer was then aged in whiskey barrels to impart big flavors of vanilla, oak, and whiskey.

As with all of our Brewers’ Select Series, there is only a limited run of 12 oz bottles available exclusively in the Weyerbacher Visitors Center and the rest of the beer is kegged and sent into the market for select bars and restaurants. Whiskey Barrel Aged is a once-and-done beer like the rest of them.

A Lesson in Labels and Names

We sometimes forget, as brewers, that there are lots of questions out loyal imbibers may have with regard to why some things are the way they are on a given label. To those that have done this for a long time, it’s business… get the labels approved to everyone can get the beer! But as a reasonably new person in the brewing industry, I often wonder what else goes into it. What challenges are there to overcome? This beer presented me with an opportunity to understand a bit more about the seemingly crazy label process, and this post gave me an opportunity to pull back the curtain for you… just a bit.

Weyerbacher - Sour Black (Pinot Noir Barrels)

You may remember back on May 4th we welcomed Bobby Clark from Weyerbacher to premier a new sour Ale coming from Chris Wilson called Sour Black.  At the time this was simply a working name and there was no real label or even name.  I can tell you it’s an amazing beer and I’m really excited to see that it will be hitting the shelves soon.  Sour Black will be packaged in 750ml bottles.  Sour Black was aged in former Rapture Pinot Noir barrels and the you can really taste the influence the wine barrels had on it with a vinous background, a little oak and a wonderful sour flavor.

Weyebacher Last Chance IPA Replaces Hops Infusion

We talked about this beer today on the WILK Friday BeerBuzz with Bobby Clark…and now you have the new label for Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA.  last Chance is the replacement for Weyerbacher’s original Hops Infusion…a result of Chris Wilson ‘s Project IPA search for the replacement and I’m proud to be the first to bring it to you.  Last Chance will be a 5.9% IPA packaged in 12oz bottles.  As an extra special bonus…a portion of the Last Chance IPA proceeds will benefit Animal Rescue….thus the reference to “last chance.”  Cheers to Chris, Dan, Bobby & everyone @ Weyerbacher for a great new beer AND a beer that not only tastes great…but a beer that makes a difference.

Weyerbacher Double Simcoe DIPA

Here’s your first peek at the Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA NEW Label.  This is radically different from the original label and I seems to share some of the new hop graphics with the new Last Chance IPA label…but in any case it looks great.  It’s 9%ABV & a 12oz bottle.

WILK Friday BeerBuzz–4 May 2012 Weyerbacher Seventeen w/Chris Wilson

WILKFridayBerbuzz8Back in May of 2010 we quietly launched our very first every WILK Friday BeerBuzz show.  I remember my emotions for that show being somewhere between excitement and complete fear.  Jump ahead 2 years later, and I can’t believe we’re celebrating our 2nd Year Anniversary.

Last year for our 1-year anniversary, we invited Chris Wilson from Weyerbacher Brewing up to celebrate our anniversary with us.  Chris brought up some Weyerbacher 16 and our pal Theresa Duffy brought even more great Weyerbacher beer to celebrate at our Krugel’s tasting party.  Since everyone had such a great time, we thought why not make it a tradition, and do it all again w/Weyerbacher….and of course there’s a BIG PARTY TONIGHT!

With Chris out in San Diego for the Craft Brewers Conference, we were lucky enough to get Bobby Clark to join us and bring up a really special beer.  This beer is so new, it doesn’t even have a name so we’re simply calling it Weyerbacher Sour Black.  This new brew is a black Belgian-style sour that’s been aging for close to a year in the former Rapture Pinot Noir barrels and the flavor is amazing.  Sour Black has a rich color and a bold sour flavor.  You can really taste the influence the wine barrels had on it with a vinous background, a little oak and a wonderful sour flavor.  I’ll be excited to see this one released and can’t wait to hear the name.

It was also cool to talk to Bobby about the development & use of the new Weyerbacher logo & the brewery expansion.  (We brought you a peek at the new logo back in Feb)

My thanks to Bobby Clark for making the ride up to be on our show AND to stay for tonight’s special Weyerbacher tasting event

Remember to come out tonight (May 4th) from 5-7PM @ Krugel’s Georgetown Deli, next to the Big Cow on Rt 309 in Wilkes-Barre Twp. to celebrate the 2-Year Anniversary of the Friday BeerBuzz on WILK. We’ll have Bobby Clark from Weyerbacher on hand with a sampling of their great brews and the entire WILK Friday BeerBuzz crew will be there to talk beer. This event is open to all (must be 21 or older to sample beer) so be sure to bring a friend and stop by!

to Bobby Clark from Weyerbacher, Nancy, John, & Joe for yet another fun Friday.

The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

As always you can check out the video on-line at the WILK Friday BeerBuzz page by clicking HERE.

Weyerbacher - Brewers Select Whiskey - Barrel Aged

Here’s an interesting new brew from Chris Wilson  @ Weyerbacher called simply Whiskey Barrel Aged….or more accurately…Brewers Select Whiskey.  No details on this one yet, but I’m betting it’s age din Whiskey barrels and packaged in 12oz bottles.

Weyerbacher Victor Coming 4/27

We gave you’re the first look at this new Brewers Select label from Weyerbacher back in early march and now comes word that Victor will be hitting the shelves at the brewery on April 27th.  This from Weyerbacher:

Our latest Brewers’ Select one-off brew is “Victor”. Per Head Brewer Chris Wilson, “Victor” is an India Red Ale. It has a malty, roasty base and is hopped with Warrior, Northern Brewer, and Centennial, then dry hopped with more centenial. 5.8% abv and 42 IBUs.

Come to Weyerbacher’s Visitor Center Friday 4:30-7:00 or Saturday Noon-3pm where you can sample some and purchase a limited run of 12 oz. bottles which are available only at the brewery. ”Victor” will be available on draft in select markets only as we limit our one-offs to just one 40-bbl batch. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Weyerbacher - Blithering Idiot, Verboten & Old Heathen New Labels

image image

Here’s your very first look at the new packaging from Weyerbacher for Blithering Idiot, (11.1% ABV) Verboten (5.9% ABV) & Old Heathen (8% ABV).  These new 12oz bottle packages not only carry the new “Weyerbacher” logo, but also a decidedly sinister tone that I really like…especially on Blithering Idiot.  The jester is decidedly-dark and much less silly when he reveals what’s under the jester’s mask.  In case you forgot, the new labels for Imperial Pumpkin Ale & Merry Monks.  Congratulations to Chris Wilson, Dan, Chris Bobby and everyone else @ Weyerbacher,

Weyerbacher Visitor Center Open Fri Nights & More (Hops Infusion Replacement Coming in May)

Lots of good news from Weyerbacher including expanded hours for the visitor center, expansion of the visitor center itself, an update on their Hops Infusion replacement (Coming in May) and a sour “black-beer” coming out of a 10-month aging in Rapture barrels and heading for 750ml bottles (no name yet.) More details from Weyerbacher’s Bill Bragg…

Weyerbacher - Brewers Select Victor

Here’s the latest release from our pal Chris Wilson  at Weyerbacher for the Brewers Select series.  This release is called Victor and we’re rapidly running out of letters in the phonetic alphabet….so I wonder what will happen after Zulu?  As always this will be in 12oz bottles and details on the actual beer will come later.

Weyerbacher Ground Breaking, Brewpub, New IPA, New Logo - Just The Facts

We brought you the news of the upcoming $1 Million expansion at Weyerbacher, and yesterday we brought you the news & video of the groundbreaking ceremony held in Easton, PA.  Because there were so many questions after yesterday’s events, Weyerbacher has published the following fact sheet to answer questions about the possibility of a brew-pub, their growth, the new IPA replacement and much more:

February 27, 2012

Groundbreaking: Today’s groundbreaking by Easton Mayor Sal Panto signifies the beginning of construction of a 7500 sq ft. expansion to the Weyerbacher Brewing facility, about a 40% increase in physical space. This additional space will allow Weyerbacher to increase capacity up to 30,000 bbls (31 gals each) as business grows. The new building is expected to be complete in September /October of this year. Weyerbacher began producing beer in 1995 in a much smaller 4500 sq ft facility on S. 6th St., in Easton’s west ward.

27 February 2012

Weyerbacher Brewing Breaks Ground

We brought you the story about Weyerbacher’s upcoming $1 Mil expansion (story HERE)…and as much is there’s not a lot to see here, I did think you’d want a peek at the photo Weyerbacher is tweeting out today of the “ground breaking”…or “ceremonial first dig” as they are calling it.

Weyerbacher Tiny - Firkin @ Standard Tap 2/29 (Leap Day)

imageOne of my favorite Weyerbacher beers, Tiny will make an incredibly rare appearance in a Firkin on 2/29 @ Standard Tap in Philly.  Details here from Weyerbacher:

Wed 2/29. Leap Day firkin @ Standard Tap. You’ll probably never see this in a firkin again (or in a keg, for that matter). Tapping at 6pm. 901 N. 2nd St. Philadelphia, PA.

24 February 2012

Weyerbacher–$1 Million Expansion, Triple Capacity & a Brewpub & June Replacement for Hops Infusion (Project IPA #5)

imageI’m excited to report some pretty drastic changes will be taking place at Weyerbacher.  It looks like the brewery will undergo a $1 Million expansion to triple the capacity of their current setup.

The official announcement will come Monday afternoon and word is while there will not initially be a Brewpub, future plans DO include the possibility of a new Weyerbacher brewpub, something we haven’t seen in many years.  This is of course dependent on having the space to build a brewpub in the expansion.

Word out of the brewery is also that Project IPA #5 will officially replace Hops Infusion in June 2012…stay tuned for a new name.

23 February 2012

Weyerbacher Uniform Will Be a KrystalHopfenRoggenBocken Coming 2/25

Back in January we brought you the first peek at Weyerbacher Uniform…the next beer in their Brewers Select Series.  Looks like our friend Chris Wilson has worked out a “style” and it’s official…Weyerbacher Uniform will be a “KrystalHopfenRoggenBocken.”  Uniform will be 25% Rye, 25% Wheat & 50% Pilsner malts and use German Hefe yeast.  Uniform will be 7% ABV and package din the traditional 12oz bottles.  According to Bill Bragg @ Weyerbacher, “It is as bitter as a nice IPA and has a beautiful aroma which blends American hops with the traditional clove notes of Weiss beer!”  Look for Uniform on draft at select accounts with 12oz bottles and growler fills only at the brewery beginning 2/25/2012!

26 January 2012

Weyerbacher - Brewers Select UNIFORM

We’ve been following along as our friend Chris Wilson has worked his way through the phonetic alphabet with the Weyerbacher Brewers Select series…and now we up to UNIFORM.  No real details yet other than it will continue to be packaged in 12oz bottles…so stay tuned.  This will likely be the last in the series that uses the old Jester Logo as the new one will be debuting on Feb 10th.
